Quick Gifts For Dad

This weekend it’s a big 'three cheers' for the handsome fella that your children call, “Daddy.” Now what do you get for the guy who has everything, or the father-in-law who leaves you stymied as you go from store to store looking for something other than golf balls every holiday? Here are a few last minute suggestions that came across my desk recently.

Start off with a stunning photo book – “Historic Photos of Long Island” by Joe Czachowski ($39.50 at local booksellers). For Dads from the Long Island, especially those Grandfathers who have been around the block a time or two, this photo essay has everything – planes, railroads, shops, and of course beaches. The images are timeless and charming, a lovely addition to any collection.

Clothes are a safe bet for the sporty Dad who likes boating, golf, and polo ponies. Over at Hampton & Co (60B Jobs Lane, Southampton, www.hamptonsandco.com) you’ll find a full line of the hottest polo-inspired shirts ($95 shown), silk ties, linen button-downs and blazers, and accessories like belts and weekender bags that will keep Dad looking sharp and stylish. And ladies, there are a few great finds for you at Hamptons & Co including a linen tunics perfect for the beach or casual cocktails, jewelry, and handbags recently featured on “Gossip Girl.”

For the well-groomed guy who likes to travel, start with a sturdy travel bag from ACE ($15.99 at drugstores) and fill it with shaving and hair essentials that he’d never buy for himself. I like the shave system from Black Opal packed with everything his sensitive skin needs ($19.95 at www.blackopalbeauty.com). The shave gel is great for the bikini line so get it for him and then snag it when he’s not looking.

Then focus on his hair – if he’s like my husband he’s constantly working on his mane and the right products will keep him picture perfect for the family photos. Start with a shampoo that will add thickness to thinning hair, try Densite by L’Oréal Professionnel ($16 at premiere salons nationwide). A crisp, clean scent is on the sporty side and the quick wash and rinse will add shine and manageability. Tame that mane with Structure’s Classic Gel by Profound Beauty ($23 at www.profoundbeauty.com) for flexible hold that he can transform into something a la Robert Pattinson.

Finish off with a spritz of sexy cologne. I like USHER ($65 at department stores nationwide) and there’s not much out there hotter than Usher ladies except for maybe this cologne. The sensual fragrance is a blend of amber wood, white pepper, and musk with a touch of verbena – it’s like a sexy cashmere sweater and you’ll want to snuggle.

Now that you’ve got him groomed, well read, and half dressed take him out to dinner, surprise him with Mets (or Yankees) tickets, or treat everyone to an exciting vacation. These are ‘icing on the cake’ gifts that kids can afford with a little help from an indulgent Mom.

Happy Father’s Day!
